Imagine a round teppan (steel grill) table with eight guests sitting around it and a chef in the center. But this is no ordinary chef. He is a true showman: he cooks with flair, juggles whatever he has on the table, and never stops joking. Joking with customers is part and parcel of the Benihana style. For example, a chef will deliver a trolley with food to your table and ask: Did you call for a cab? Or he'll pour some coffee or Coke into your bowl while cooking the next dish. You might be ready to blow your top, but then you find out that in fact it's soy sauce. Or you might be offered a bowl of rice: "Here you go"! But when you reach for it, it flies up to the ceiling, followed by forks, the salt shaker, and knives. To be sure, they get caught and returned to their places safe and sound. Beside the great meal, you can't help but experience a charge of joie de vivre and happiness.
The Benihana show centers not only on making food, but drinks as well. Flamboyant cocktail shows will quickly put you in the right mood! A Burning Waterfall, Harakiri, or Vampire's Kiss are not only delicious to drink, but great to watch being made as well! |
